Over the years my birthday cakes have been pretty bland. It’s either a fresh cream fruit cake with ‘Happy Birthday Jen’ spelled out in dodgy blue icing or it’s a ready made chocolate cake from Tesco, the one with the little edible white chocolate balls on it.
I always felt in my soul that there was more to birthday cakes than sponge, one layer and candle wax. I was right. With the internet came Google Image and with Google Image came a whole world of cake art, unlimited layers and creations beyond my tiny Irish imagination.
Not only did I find cakes that were amazing they also fed my geeky side. I don’t know whether I would eat them or encase them to preserve them forever. Maybe someday I’ll know how to bake a cake and actually make some of these but until that day I’ll continue to indulge my cake fetish and put them marked in the folder ‘Not Cake Porn’.
